Are you considering contact lenses?

Here is some information you may find helpful. There are two types of contact lenses:
soft and gas permeable lenses (aka hard/rigid lenses).

Soft lenses

They are very comfortable and thus are easy to adapt to. They are disposable, so if a lens is lost or torn it can be easily replaced. Soft lenses come in a variety of types:

Extended wear- these lenses are a promising new addition; they are made of a revolutionary material that provides greater comfort, longer wear and better eye health for many patients

Toric- these lenses are custom-made to correct for astigmatism (an oval shaped cornea that requires a differently shaped lens to provide good vision)

Bifocal- these lenses are designed to correct presbyopic patients (usually over 40 who have difficulty focusing at near)

Daily disposables- these lenses provide the ultimate in convenience…they require no cleaning as they are removed on a daily basis… they are an excellent choice for busy adults, young children and allergy sufferers

Colors- these lenses provide a very natural-looking change in eye color for a variety of different prescriptions

Sports enhancer- these lenses have a tint that mutes all colors except optic yellow… the color of tennis balls… they improve your ability to locate a fast-moving ball while on the tennis court

Gas permeable lenses

Gas permeable lenses (gas perms) can provide sharper vision than soft lenses for many different patient prescriptions:

Astigmatism- certain types of astigmatism will be corrected much more effectively with gas perms, instead of soft toric lenses… your Doctor will advise you which choice is best for you

Bifocal- certain bifocal prescriptions will be corrected much more effectively with gas perms, instead of soft bifocal lenses… your Doctor will advise you which choice is best for you

Keratoconus- this eye disease affects the cornea, changing its shape… it is usually best corrected with a gas permeable lens

Refractive surgery- some refractive surgery patients (LASIK, PRK, RK) can have their vision improved with gas permeable lenses
