Are you considering contact lenses? Here is some information you may find helpful. There
are two types of contact lenses: Soft lenses They are very comfortable and thus are easy to adapt to. They are disposable, so if a lens is lost or torn it can be easily replaced. Soft lenses come in a variety of types: Extended wear- these lenses are a promising new addition; they are made of a revolutionary material that provides greater comfort, longer wear and better eye health for many patients Toric- these lenses are custom-made to correct for astigmatism (an oval shaped cornea that requires a differently shaped lens to provide good vision) Bifocal- these lenses are designed to correct presbyopic patients (usually over 40 who have difficulty focusing at near) Daily disposables- these lenses provide the ultimate in convenience…they require no cleaning as they are removed on a daily basis… they are an excellent choice for busy adults, young children and allergy sufferers Colors- these lenses provide a very natural-looking change in eye color for a variety of different prescriptions Sports enhancer- these lenses have
a tint that mutes all colors except optic yellow… the color of
tennis balls… they improve your
ability to locate a fast-moving ball while on the tennis court Gas permeable lenses Gas permeable lenses (gas perms) can provide sharper vision than soft lenses for many different patient prescriptions: Astigmatism- certain types of astigmatism will be corrected much more effectively with gas perms, instead of soft toric lenses… your Doctor will advise you which choice is best for you Bifocal- certain bifocal prescriptions will be corrected much more effectively with gas perms, instead of soft bifocal lenses… your Doctor will advise you which choice is best for you Keratoconus- this eye disease affects the cornea, changing its shape… it is usually best corrected with a gas permeable lens Refractive surgery- some refractive surgery patients (LASIK, PRK, RK) can have their vision improved with gas permeable lenses
